made an important contribution to the development of German and international maritime and land transport law as a “Ministerialdirigent” (Assistant Director) in the German Federal Ministry of Justice, representative of the Federal Republic of Germany at numerous international state conferences, director of the Institute of Maritime Law of the University at Hamburg, member of the Comité Maritime International, chairman of the Expert Commission on Transport Law Reform and chairman of the Expert Group on Maritime Law Reform. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), the drafting and approval of which he already dealt with during his time at the Ministry, is also a particularly important part of his work. He is chairman of the German Association for Transport Law (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Transportrecht e.V.) and publisher of the journals Transport Law and International Trade Law. Prof. Dr. Herber has been a partner in our firm since 1995 and works as an arbitrator in international arbitral courts.
