Dr. Peter Holtappels
Lawyerfounded the Hamburg office. After completing his legal training, he worked as a managing partner in the Harmstorf Group (shipping and shipbuilding) from 1968 to 1978. Then he ran a shipping company specialising in heavy lift transport until 1989. Dr. Holtappels joined our firm as a partner in 1989 in order to restructure the shipping department. In 1992, he took the initiative in moving this department to Hamburg and thus laid the foundation stone for our maritime law office in his home town which has been growing at a constant rate ever since. He was president of the German Maritime Arbitration Association for 11 years and is now its honorary chairman. As from 1.1.2010 he returned to our Bremen office, where he engages himself in practice and research in the field of "human rights at the end of life". He assists in the accomplishment of agreements between members of the medical profession and health insurers, trains doctors in the legal and ethical aspects of palliative medicine and publishes in medical journals on his topic. Together with others he has just been awarded the second prize for a study on Palliative care at home by the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Palliatimedizin" being the leading German scientific society of Palliative Medicine.
